Easy Hair Tutorial ~ Hot Air Brush Styling Tool!!

Updated: May 24, 2023

Quick and Easy Tutorial for the oh so popular Hot Air Brush!!

I was not blessed with dry-and-go hair. I have very thick and medium textured hair - which honestly is both a blessing and a curse. But I don't get to just air dry and go - no.... the hair gods require heat and product to tame it!

Once I started using this styling tool it was a game changer for me!! It cut my dry time down AND I no longer have to use my straightener or curling iron on the regular. There are so many versions of this all over the internet and for good reason!! I personally am a fan of the Revlon Styling Brush but you can use whichever brand you prefer!

I've included a video and a link to my favorite haircare products for you as well!!

Tutorial Video

Let's get right into it. Here's a quick tutorial video so you can see just how easy it is to use this styling tool!! Want step by step instructions - just keep reading after the video! ;)

First things First - Protect your hair!!

The last thing we want to do is damage our hair!! Whenever I get out of the shower first thing I do is spray in some detangler and a leave in conditioner along with a heat protectant before going through with a wide tooth comb.

Air or Blow-dry

It's important to note that this more of a styling tool. While yes, it will dry your hair, to help protect your hair from damage it's best to air dry or blow dry your hair a little before you get started with the tool. Me personally, I don't fully dry my hair first, but I do get what I call the "drippies" out before I get started. This way before I start using the brush, my hair is no longer dripping wet.

Check Your Settings

While heat can help us tame our locks, it can also do a world of damage. I know it's temping to use the highest and hottest setting, however, it's best to use low or medium heat settings to prevent damaging your hair.

Separate into Sections

Ok this part makes it look like it's going to take forever but I promise this is a step that will actually make it go even faster!!

You will want to section and separate your hair. I take the sections and clip to the top of my head and work from the bottom up - see video for more detail.

Dry in Sections

Once you have separated your hair you simply dry in sections, start with one side and just brush your hair until that side is dry, once dry, start brushing the other side.

Once both sides are dry, push those sections to the back, let down the next section and repeat until all sections are dry!!

Brush it ALL

Once all sections are dry, brush all of your hair with the tool, this will help smooth and blend the sections together. This step will give you the most polished look.

Optional

Use a serum or finishing product to add shine and tame flyaway pieces. While this is standard for me when is use the flatiron or curling iron, I haven't needed to do this with this tool. However, we all have different hair textures and sometimes it really is a great final step!

Note:

While I personally use the Revlon Styling Brush the technique should work with any hot air brush, however, as I haven't personally used another brand, I can't give you an honest review for any other brand at this time. I am not sponsored by Revlon in any way, nevertheless, I may earn a small commission from the links shared in this post.

So what did you think? Will you try it?

Let me know if you found this tutorial helpful.
