Nourishing the skin for winter should be a deliberate plan. Here are ways you can help skin transition smoothly into the colder seasons with links to my favorites and I even have a little video talking about some of my most reached for items!
As the winter chill sets in, our skin often bears the brunt of harsh winds and indoor heating, leading to dryness and dullness. It's time to revamp your skincare routine and pamper your skin with some extra love. Here's a few simple tips to keep your skin radiant and hydrated throughout the winter season!
1. Hydration
Winter air tends to be dry, which can leave your skin parched. Ensure your skin stays hydrated by increasing your water intake.
This is my favorite tumbler - I honestly struggle with drinking enough water and have tried every water bottle on the planet - I don't know what it is about this one - but it's the only one I stick with! You can find it in my Amazon store here or you can go directly through Simple Modern here and get it personalized for an extra charge. See my full review here.
2. Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize
Never skip this step in your routine! Additionally, invest in a good quality moisturizer to lock in moisture. Consider using richer, creamier formulas during winter to provide your skin with the extra nourishment it needs. This goes for both your face and your body. These are my go to options for winter moisturizers.
Also, keep in mind that the weather can alter your skin needs. This antioxidant moisturizer makes a great step in your daily skincare routine and comes with a formula for both normal/dry skin as well as combo/oily skin.
Here you have an option that go on top of or in place your regular moisturizer.
The Intense Moisturizing Cream is for dryer skin and the Oil Free Hydrating Gel is for more combo/oily. Even though my skin is more on dry side, but I use the Hydrating Gel year round when I need extra hydration!
The dry winter air can really dry out your skin and give you what I call dragon skin! You know, where you end up looking like you have scales - attractive, I know... This is one of my best kept secret but we don't gate keep around here!! Use this in the shower and then moisturize as soon as you get out!
Here's a few everyday options and if you can, use them right when you get out of the shower! This one is my go to and it smells amazing, it leaves your skin feeling refreshed and looking so soft and smooth!! This one is so rich and creamy and just feels like a treat! This one is for your feet and legs leaving them feeling so soft and refreshed.
If you are struggling with extra dry skin try this Emollient Night Cream it works wonders on those dry patches, especially on hands, elbows, and feet!
2. Gentle Cleansing
Opt for a gentle, hydrating cleanser to cleanse your face. Harsh cleansers can strip away essential oils, leaving your skin feeling tight and dry. Look for cleansers with ingredients like hyaluronic acid or glycerin to maintain your skin's natural moisture barrier. This 4-1 Cleanser is a great gentle option for both normal/dry and combo/oily it leaves your skin feeling clean and renewed without residue! Make sure to avoid long, hot showers and baths - hot baths, especially long ones, can strip the skin of its natural oils.
3. Exfoliate Wisely
Exfoliation is key to removing dead skin cells and promoting a radiant complexion. However, don't overdo it, especially in winter. Choose a mild exfoliator and incorporate it into your routine 1-2 times a week to avoid irritation. This will help your skin absorb moisture more effectively.
This microdermabrasion is wonderful! It's gentle on your skin and comes both in a set with a pore minimizing serum or on its own. Either way you can't go wrong. Find them both here.
This is another step that is not exclusive to the skin on your face, you also want to exfoliate your body and your lips!
The Satin Lips Set is amazing and helps your lips feel so soft and incredibly smooth! This lips balm is in my Top 5 and I have one stashed everywhere! You can snag the set or the individual items.
The Satin Hands Set is a game changer. You don't even realize how bad you need it until you've used it and feel how incredible your hands look and feel!!
You know if there is Satin Lips and Satin Hands there is going to be a Satin Body Set too! This scrub is super gentle on the skin and if you want you can even snag a set with a body wash and lotion too!
You can find all the Satin Body Products here. They even had a hand soap and hand sanitizer that are great for not drying out your skin!
Another great option for a body scrub and lip balm is Tree Hut - it comes in so many different scents too!! You can find them at Target here or on Amazon here.
4. Sunscreen Is Non-Negotiable
Even in winter, UV rays can cause damage to your skin. Make sunscreen a non-negotiable part of your skincare routine. Opt for a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, and apply it daily, especially on exposed areas like your face and hands.
This Daytime Defender is a great one for daily use which makes a great addition to your skincare routine but if you are going to spend a significant amount of time in the sun a dedicated sunscreen is best. This is a great option that is gentle enough for those of us with sensitive skin it even helps skin appear more vibrant throughout the day - best part? It's great for all skin types! You can find it here.
For a dedicated sunscreen this is my top (and only) choice. I have super sensitive skin and normally can't wear a sunscreen because they are super heavy. This one is perfect and you can find it here!
5. Humidify Your Space
Indoor heating systems can suck the moisture out of the air, leaving your skin feeling dry and tight. Consider using a humidifier in your living space to add moisture back into the air. This can benefit not only your skin but also your overall well-being during the winter months.
6. Treat Yourself to a Mask
Indulge in a hydrating face mask once or twice a week to give your skin an extra boost of moisture. Look for masks containing ingredients like honey, aloe vera, or hyaluronic acid to replenish and soothe your skin.
This Renewing Hydrating Gel Mask is so great and the best part is you don't even have to wash it off! Simply make this the last step of your night time skincare routine and sleep in it!! For an even more refreshing feel ~ keep it in the fridge! You can find it here.
Another great option is a booster!! With dual action hyaluronic acid, this booster replenishes three critical factors in one simple step. Find it here to learn more!
7. Stay Nourished from the Inside Out
Remember that skincare isn't only about external products. Ensure your skin gets the nutrients it needs by maintaining a healthy diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and omega-3 fatty acids. These nourishments contribute to a healthy, radiant complexion.
By incorporating these simple tips into your winter skincare routine, you'll be well on your way to maintaining glowing, healthy skin even in the coldest months. Embrace the season with confidence, and let your radiance shine through!
